Although we anticipate a wealth of Broadway transfers in Waitress, Come From Away and 9 to 5 making appearances in the West End next year, the excitement around those shows may overshadow some of the brilliant new British musicals that exist. Two of the three shows below, you can catch on stage this year while the remaining show has just released an album of music from the show after acclaimed runs in London and Edinburgh.

Six the musical follows your new favourite girlband. Henry VIII’s ex wives all band together to perform their side of the story through a mix of pop and r’n’b infused music. After seeing the show last month, I absolutely had to listen to the songs once I finished seeing the show. Although at the time, only 3 songs have been released from the show, I could not get enough. Luckily for me, now the entire album is available on all good streaming platforms! If you’re a fan of Little Mix and Destiny’s Child then definitely check out the singles. Eugenius

My first experience with Eugenius began when I attended the London Palladium one night only workshop performance of the show with Olivia.  At that point, they had already released a cast album with most of the cast that appeared in that production. Since then, the show has gained an army of fans and is currently running at The Other Palace for the second run this year. Eugenius is truly out of this world fun and very much inspired by 80s music while dropping some references to superheroes and the comic book world. Chris Wilkins and Ben Adams score is energetic and carries a real feel good factor. The Quentin Dentin Show

The ultimate urban spaceman Quentin Dentin has not only had his own musical but now he has his own album too! I missed the show during it’s initial run at the Tristan Bates Theatre, but I think it’s great that this show can live on in a different format and gain a new audience. The album was produced by co-founder of The Kooks, Paul Garred whose influence I could definitely feel on this album. In a similar vein to Six and Eugenius, this album is also very energetic and fun to listen to. The only issue I had with it was that the songs felt very much like they were written for the scenes rather than as a stand alone song. Which isn’t a bad thing, but seeing as I hadn’t seen the production, I did feel a slight disconnect. However, that completely hinder my enjoyment of the album.
