“Former PSHCE teacher and acclaimed YA author James Dawson gives an uncensored look at what it’s like to grow up as LGBT. Including testimonials from people ‘across the spectrum’, this inclusive book explores everything anyone who ever dared to wonder wants to know – from sex to politics, how to pull, stereotypes, how to come-out and more. Spike Gerrell’s hilarious illustrations combined with funny and factual text make this a must-have read.”
I LOVED THIS BOOK.
This book is incredibly educational. From learning about the individual sexualities and how they originated to the difference between transexual/transvestites/transgender to even how same sex couples practice safe sex and keep themselves protected. There’s guides on how to come out, how to pull, guide of current LGBTQIA+ role models for the community, starting a family and loads more.
This book also includes submitted accounts from people who have experienced changing their gender to couples starting a family to coming out.
I feel like everyone should read this book, no matter your sexuality.
There are some serious chapters on homophobia/transphobia, self image and how effective bullying and peer pressure is in the LGBT+ community.
On top of being educational and informative, Juno Dawson’s writing is HILARIOUS! On the topic of self image, there’s a section on how some gay men take steroids to fit the stereotype of being “macho” and how dangerous it is to take steroids. Which she finishes off with
This is a really fantastic and well written book. If you are struggling to come to terms with your sexuality or know a family member/acquaintance who is, I highly recommend this book!
