HELLO DECEMBER!
THE MONTH OF CHRISTMAS AND A TON OF BIRTHDAYS!
HERE ARE ALL THE BOOKS I READ IN NOVEMBER YAY
So green was a popular colour I see! :’)
How To Be A Woman – Caitlin Moran
A fantastic funny and frank book about being a woman in the 21st century. I can’t wait to read more of her work.
I did a review heeeere! π
Christmas With Billy and Me – Giovanna Fletcher
A cute short story based around Sophie and Billy, the main characters from Giovanna’s debut novel ‘Billy and Me’. It’s only 50 pages and short and sweet! I liked it, I wish there was more! Would recommend reading if you are a fan of chick lit/romance but I would suggest reading Billy and Me first!
Grasshopper Jungle – Andrew Smith
A young adult possibly post apocalyptic book about 6 foot horny mantises taking over Ealing, Iowa. We follow a 16 year old Polish-American boy called Austin as he writes interweaves the story of his life with how him and his best friend accidentally bring the end of humanity.
I had some mixed feelings about this book. I think I had more appreciation for what the author tried to do than what he actually did do. I did a review about it here! π
I should note that Grasshopper Jungle is not for the faint hearted. One aspect I did like about the book was that Andrew Smith took every thing considered ‘taboo’ within YA and put it in this novel. Swearing? Smoking? Homosexual tendencies? A fairly graphic sex scene? IT’S GOT IT.
The Island of Doctor Moreau – H.G Wells
A very short and quick classic about a man who survives a shipwreck and ends up taking hospitality on a stranded islandΒ by a notorious scientist exploring in vivisection experiments between animals and humans. I have the Penguin English Library Edition that is incredibly bright! I really enjoyed this. Only took me a couple of sittings to get through. I also did a review of this which you can see heeeeere π
*takes deep breath.* I really did not like this. I couldn’t finish it. I always try to find something redeeming within a book. Just because I didn’t enjoy it doesn’t mean someone else wouldn’t enjoy it either. The characters were so stupid, especially Tally the protagonist. Such an irrelevant love triangle, a predictable plot and a complete waste of time.
And then I fell into a massive slump. I managed to get 130 odd pages into Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn but that’s boring me at the moment. It’s so slow for a thriller! It’s a thriller! THRILL ME!
I have a couple of big assignments to do for college before Christmas and then hopefully I will be able to read over the Christmas holidays!
Due to lots of birthday celebrations and college I haven’t been in the mood to blog either so I thought I’d keep you up to date with things I’ve been up to!
– I saw Matilda The Musical! I adored it! Brilliant music and a timeless story. If you have the opportunity go and see it!
– I recently discovered the film adaptation of Jersey Boys and I ADORED IT. I’ve starting beggin’ (*WINK*) to see the stage show. Can you tell I like a good musical?
– And I saw Mockingjay part one and was so disappointed. I felt like nothing happened. There was absolutely no need for the film to be split in two except for more money.
aaaaaand that’s it!
Hopefully I become a better blogger this month!
Also, NaNoWriMo-ers. Does anybody want to send me some writing spirit?!?! 3,000 word piece for Creative Writing and a 5,000 word essay for my EPQ. HELP ME.
