Thoughts:
Let start off by saying I’m a huge fan of Seth MacFarlane’s. I probably will see anything he makes. I enjoyed Ted and I was super skeptical when Universal announced a sequel. And I was super surprised to find out that it wasn’t complete crap!
I really enjoyed that this film has a separate plot line. I feel like newcomers to the franchise wouldn’t have to watch the first film to understand a lot of the sequel. The first film focused mainly on John while this film mainly focuses on Ted.
I liked the introduction of Amanda Seyfried’s character. I liked that the film became about the three of them instead of what they did with Mila Kunis’ character and have her as “the girlfriend”.
The opening titles to this film were absolutely stunning even if it was a classic way to imply “fuck you we have the money to do this!” The cameos were brilliant too (Trix are for kids…) and I liked the sequence at Comic Con.
But some of the jokes were SO unnecessary and so unnecessarily offensive. It was already a pretty long film, some things could’ve been cut out. And listening to interviews, this film could have been a whole lot longer, so maybe we should consider ourselves lucky.
Truth be told, I’m glad they made this film and I’m glad I saw it. But I think Universal were getting ahead of themselves by thinking this film could make as much money as the first. This kind of humour can only last so long. It’s a very marmite film. If Family Guy is your thing, you’ll love it. If it’s not then don’t waste your time.
