NYC ’17 | In bed by 9, Pancakes at 8, Sondheim at 7.

The first 24 hours are always the most tiring. Changing time zones is so weird when you’re not used to them! Once my parents and I had checked into the hotel, we headed straight for bed! It was still light out and everything. These pillows in the hotel are the comfiest I’ve ever slept on.

(A contender for Lea Michele’s bed series, yes?)

Tuesday was a pretty chilled day. We had breakfast at Sandwicherie on East 42nd Street where I devoured a huge stack of buttermilk pancakes.

It was absolutely baking out. I barely get through 25 degree weather let alone 35 degree weather. I didn’t want to leave the comfort of the air conditioned hotel room! We had a bit of time to kill so we hung around Times Square and I had a massive geek out over the little The Strand kiosk and bought some cheeky purchases!

For dinner we grabbed a bite to eat at the Brooklyn Diner on West 43rd Street. It was only down the road from The Town Hall where we were attending a benefit gala for the Irish Repetory Theatre. They hosted a line up of fantastic performers who performed a bunch of Stephen Sondheim classics. My personal favourites were Jeremy Jordan performing Maria from West Side Story, Mark Evans & Ryan Silverman performing Agony from Into The Woods & Donna Kane performing I’m Still Here from Follies. Overall it was a truly great running order, I just wish songs from Gypsy and Assassins were featured too!

And because I’m me, being in a different country doesn’t stop me from stage dooring! I got very lucky indeed. I met Michael Cevaris who was so lovely and signed my programme and I got to tell him I adore Fun Home. And he was with the assistant director of Fun Home who told me the show is coming to London in June next year! And I got to meet Jeremy Jordan and get a somewhat jet lag fuelled by somehow cute selfie with him. Even my mum was flustered meeting him!

And amazingly as my parents and I were waiting to hail a cab, we bumped into Mark Evans! My mum and I were so excited cause we saw Mark in Ghost in London years ago!

And that’s it for our first day in New York!

Until next time
