A new year means a wave of new theatre coming into the West End! Although I do love the classics, it’s always nice to see some fresh blood in London theatre. These are the six shows I cannot wait to … Continue reading Shows I’m Looking Forward To Seeing in 2019
Today I am bringing you three new stage productions that have been adapted from previous work that you can see on stage in London. The shows below include a new interpretation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, an opera set in 2017 and a musical about a teenage drag queen.
Earlier in November, I attended the very first preview of the West End Debut of Dreamgirls at the Savoy Theatre. When the producers announced Amber Riley (Glee) would be starring as Effie White I knew I had to get a … Continue reading Dreamgirls @ The Savoy Theatre
Last week, Jen & I attended a performance of the European premiere of Vanities:The Musical. Based on the play of the same name, the show follows three best friends from cheerleaders in high school to sorority sisters to adulthood. The show spans from 1963 to 1974 & later from Texas to New York City. Due to the nature and intimacy of the Studio 2 at the Trafalgar Studios, you literally get to see these three women grow up, all in front of your eyes in the space of two hours. One thing I loved about the show was how female … Continue reading Vanities The Musical @ Trafalgar Studios 2
I have been thinking a lot lately, about the range of genres you can find within a musical, especially in recent years. The sun has also started shining recently which means I can spend hours walking again. And here are my recommendations for some great musical albums you can rock out to in the sunshine.
No doubt there will be another post like this. Consider this post 1 in a very long series!
I love musicals. I love the old school musicals. I love the new and game changing musicals. MUSICALS ARE GREAT.
If you’re looking for some good tunes, here are five that you may not know about!
So this week was Alexander Hamilton’s birthday! Happy birthday you, bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a Scotsman….
261 years ago, Alexander Hamilton was born. But wait, who is Alexander Hamilton, you ask?
Alexander Hamilton was one of the founding fathers of the United States. He was the first Secretary of Treasury, was George Washington’s right hand man and was the founder of the Federalist Party, heavily pushing the Federalist Papers and was shot in a duel by Aaron Burr. And that’s just the bare minimum.
261 years later, his life is the basis of the smash hit musical ‘Hamilton’ on Broadway.Lin-Manuel Miranda, one of the creators and stars of previous Broadway smash In The Heights, was inspired to write a musical about our boy Alex here, after picking up a biography of his life written by Ron Chernow.
Over the course of seven years, Lin-Manuel Miranda has managed to compress a 900 page book into a 3 hour musical. All sung through. All told through a mix of Broadway, rap and hip hop music.
Hello all! So I mostly post about books on here but another love of mine is theatre/musicals! Living in London, I have seen my fair share and I will continue to do so! (well as far as my bank account allows me) (Should note I haven’t been sponsored! I genuinely love these shows!) So today I thought I would list some of my favourite songs from some shows I’ve seen lately! 1) ‘One Day More’ from ‘Les Miserables.’ This is last year’s cast performing at the Oliviers 2014! Les Miserables is my ultimate favourite musical. It was the first one … Continue reading Some of my favourite songs from musicals!
