When Usborne announced they were publishing this companion novella to the Spinster Club series I was both thrilled and scared. WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN? What’s A Girl Gotta Do? left on such a cliffhanger I couldn’t wait for my pre-order to arrive.

And A Happy New Year…? revisits Evie, Amber & Lottie after they’ve finished sixth form and the start of the paths they are on now. We also get to revisit other characters such as Evie’s old best friend Jane, Evie’s boyfriend Ollie and Amber & Lottie’s boyfriends Kyle and Will.

Unlike the previous novels where each character narrated the book, this novella is split into all three’s voices/points of view. And I think this is what made the finale so wonderfully wrapped up. It’s still in first person but you hear all three girls and what’s going on inside their heads.

I applaud Holly in some of the character choices she made, mostly with Lottie. At the start of the series, I always thought I was more like Evie. But reading about Lottie in What’s A Girl Gotta Do and what happens to her after, really made me identify with her more.Lottie’s so bright and brash and wonderful that people often forget that she struggles even if she’s not 100% vocal about it.

This is a hard review to write because I really don’t want to spoil what happens. But if you haven’t checked out this series then I highly recommend it. I love this series and And A Happy New Year..? was a wonderful conclusion to a wonderful series. If you’re looking for some great books about a positive female friendship then I highly recommend the Spinster Club Series. Am I Normal Yet?
